Caroline Harcourt obtained her BSc degree in zoology at Bristol University and then studied the behaviour and ecology of bushbabies in South Africa for her MSc from Witwatersrand University and continued this work in Kenya for her PhD from Cambridge University. Subsequently, working from the World Conservation Monitoring Centre in Cambridge, she authored IUCN’s Red Data Book on lemurs and edited two large volumes on the tropical forests of Africa and the Americas. She was a part-time lecturer for a MSc course in Primate Conservation at Oxford Brookes University from 2000-2002. Caroline is also editorial assistant for the primate journal Folia Primatologica . She is a trustee of the Welsh Mountain Zoo, a co-opted council member of the Primate Society of Great Britain, Convenor of the Conservation Working Party of this Society and also a member of the IUCN Primate Specialist Group. As research and information officer for the North West Zoonoses Group, she updates the website, arranges quarterly meetings, produces a weekly report on emerging diseases and co-ordinates communication between the members of the group.
