A host (species) which may or may not show disease, and that acts as the link in the chain of transmission between the reservoir host and the host of interest (for zoonoses, man).  Although liaison hosts are important in the epidemiology of zoonoses, they are not usually important in the ecology of the agent - they are, essentially, intermediary accidental hosts.
