RNA (Ribonucleic Acid) is a nucleic acid found mostly in the cytoplasm, but also in the nucleus, of cells. It plays an important role in protein synthesis and other chemical activities of the cells; one of its main functions being to copy genetic information from DNA (via transcription) and then translate it into proteins (by translation). Its structure is similar to that of DNA, but RNA is a single-stranded molecule. There are several forms of RNA, including messenger RNA, transfer RNA and ribosomal RNA
